Magnificent Music

After neglecting this blog for quite a while I'm realizing that it wasn't such a great idea to start this in the first place. I don't have time to update it the way I should and my collegue has her blog to think about, so I see no other way but to close down Padraig's Musicbox.

I have good new though. Eibhlín is going to continue this music quest on her own blog. Every Sunday you'll be able to find some old, new and random music on Magnificent Moods

It's worth checking it out. Sunday is the music day and the rest of the day is most likely a rant day. After all, she does claim to be the Queen of Randomness :)

If you're into music it's worth a try!
Thanks for reading!

Changing the domain

Today I've changed the url for the website. The former one, http://themusicboffins.blogspot.com was not great and I'm well aware of that. Luckily the domain Padraig's Musicbox was avaliable so that's what we'll use from now on!

If you have any suggestions on music you'd like to see here on the blog feel free to tell me and I'll see what I can do. It's always fun to try new things!

Doris Day

Today I'm going to blog about something I know - Old, jazzy music from the 50's and 60's. Music my mother hates! :)

It's probably weird for a young person to admire music and singers the grandparents grew up with, but I honestly do think they're all amazing! I'd like to introduce you to Doris Day, a singer who is probably most famous for "Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps" and "Que sera sera". Since most people already know about those two songs I've decided to show you "Dream a little dream of me". It's brilliant for basically anything you'd ever do! :)
I usually have it playing late at night while I tidy up in my flat or having a cup of tea before bedtime. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Man, I've been lazy when it comes to blogging!
I know Eibhlín is busy keeping her Reflections going as well, but I don't have any excuse. All I can do is to promise to better myself.

It's St. Patrick's Day today and I would like to take this opportunity to actually post on of my collegue's favourite Irish song for everyone to enjoy. It is, after all, the Irish national day.

A little time to myself

The best tip I have when it comes to relaxation and quality-time spent with oneself, is to kick back and listen to some old-fashioned jazz.
I’m 23 years old, so I feel a little bit precocious when I preach about Ella Fitzgerald, Louie Armstrong and Frank Sinatra’s greatness. I think this whole love for the jazzy, swingy music comes from the fact that you can’t find it anywhere anymore. The radio will try and shove you full of mass-produced pop, rock music and a few romantic ballads. Fair enough, they play music but you’ll soon find they play it over and over and over and over again. As a matter of fact, they’ll play it until your ears bleed. I used to love Ronan Keating’s song “Life is a rollercoaster” when it was new and out, a little embarrassing but I did. Until one day when I was just sick of it. It had been over-played.
When it comes to jazz you’ll find the progression will be totally different from what you’re used to (unless you’re a jazz-freak like myself ☺ ) It’s often soft and soothing, there’s piano, brass and base. And a singer with a fantastic voice!
I don’t mind appearing old when I crouch up in my armchair with my wine, my magazine and my old jazz music. It’s what helps and you should try it too! ☺

A great band

The Offspring is an underestimated rock band in my opinion. One tends to forget bands after a while, but I can never forget the Offspring. Sure sometimes I look at the displayed song name in my mp3-player and start wondering what song that is again? However it only takes two seconds of the intro to remind me and from there I know all the lyrics even. That must be one of the things distinguishing a great band.
Here we go today: a little Offspring treat!

My life according to Dean Martin

I found this intriguing mind game the other day where you're supposed to tell the story of your life using only song names from ONE BAND or ARTIST. I just had to take a stab at it and made my life according to Dean Martin. If it sounds as fun to you as it did to me, just copy the questions and delete my answers and choose your own artist or band.
It's a lot harder than you'd think!

My life according to Dean Martin:

Are you a female: I can't help it
Describe yourself: Cuddle up a little closer
How do you feel: I've got my love to keep me warm
Describe where you currently live: Marshmallow world
If you could go anywhere, where would you go: Under the bridges of Paris
Your favorite form of transportation: Volare
Your best friend is: Angel baby
You and your best friend are: Two sleepy people
What's the weather like: Baby, it's cold outside
Favorite time of day: Bonne nuit
If your life was a TV show, what would it be called: Ain't that a kick in the head
What is life to you: Memories are made of this
Your relationship: That's amore
Your fear: You've got me crying again
What is the best advice you have to give: Please don't talk about me when I'm gone
My soul's present condition: Hey brother, pour the wine
My Motto: Everybody loves somebody sometime
